Army working hard to provide family benefits
Thursday, January 29th, 2009To mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Army Family Action Plan, the AFAP announces that funding to support Army families will double from $700 million to $1.4 billion in 2009.
Since 1983, the Army has strived to understand the needs of army families, and are motivated to provide competitive benefits to that which could be found in the civilian world. The Secretary of the Army Pete Geren told 117 delegates at their annual conference that “they (AFAP) have done more than any other single organization to make sure the Army is responsive to the needs of our families.”
Garan also goes on to mention how Health Care has been a top priority since the beginning, and that although Tricare was a huge step forward, that providing sufficient health care funding for troops and their families is a never-ending challenge and that the Army will continue to adapt and evolve.
Additional priorities include providing adequate family housing, and that their solutions support the changing needs of army families and the requisite quality of life that these families deserve.
The conference supported 100 topics which require attention, which will be narrowed down to sixteen issues, prioritized, and submitted to the Chief of Staff, after January 30, 2009.
